Aarya 2 Review
AARYA 2 is a much hyped movie and is said to be a preceded by 2004 movie ‘AARYA’.
The movie is said to be a musical hit and especially the song ‘Ringa Ringa…’ is a highlight to the movie. The movies moves on an average pace and the screenplay and the brief storyline are excellently carved.

Aarya 2 Story
Allu Arjun and Navadeep are thick friends and from their childhood they compete in everything they face in life together. Navadeep always wants to be a step forward than Bunny (Allu Arjun) and is always competes with him in activities like studies, games, music, dance, and so on. But as expected Allu arjun wins finally and stays always a step forward than Navadeep.

Both the childhood friends get into a corporate company and the happening life is well displayed on screen. Incidentally, Kajal Agarwal enters the life of both the friends and the two falls in love with her in the first sight. Shraddha Arya also shares the screen space along with the heroine of course. There is a surprise character in a cameo role in this film

Navadeep expresses his love to his friend Bunny and asks him to help him out in the love matter. Allu Arjun sacrifices his love and with his funny and intellectual tricks helps Navadeep impress Kajal Agarwal.

Finally the big day arrives, and Allu Arjun finds that Kajal Agarwal is in love with him and not his friend Navadeep. Then the suspense element strikes the spine of the audiences. But in order to know that who will marry whom, please visit the theatres as soon as possible.

NEELATHAAMARA SYNOPSIS
Neelathamara is the remake of Malayalam movie Neelathamara. The movie revolves around Kizhakumbattu, an ancestral home in a village. There is a temple near the home. Kunhjimalu (Arachana) and Sharothe Ammini arrive there daily to offer prayers . There was a belief among the people that, if anyone offers special prayer to the deity at this temple, a blue lotus will bloom in the pond near the temple. Kunhjimalu was Appukkuttan's uncle's daughter.

One day Kunhjimalu was brought to Kizhakumbattu Malukutty Amma's house to do household work by Appu Kuttan (Suresh). Haridas (Kamlesh) who was the only son of Kizhakumbattu family. He returned home after completing higher studies. Later he fell in love with house maid Kunhji Malu.

PREVIEW:
Yesteryears Malayalam films were affluent in their scripts, relevant to social and cultural life of that time. Compared to the other film industries in India, Mollywood always hesitated to remake those classics. Now ace director Lal Jose is creating history by making Neelathamara (The Blue Lotus), one of the beautiful movies ever in Malayalam cinema, bloom again. It should be noteworthy that the movie is coming back after 30 years of its release in a new style and with a new cast. In 1979, the original movie directed by Yousafali Kecheri was penned by legendary writer M.T Vasudevan Nair. Now MT has made some periodical modifications in the story keeping in mind today’s audiences.

Neelathaamara is a story of two generations. Kunjimalu, a 16 year old village girl is an naive servant of Kizhakepattu house, a well known ancestral home. The movie blurts out the romance nestled in her heart for the land lord's son Haridas. Haridas is a rough and tough guy who has returned home after his higher studies. Kunjimalu had heard a lot about Haridas from his mother so she keeps that respect and keeps away, even trying to hide from Hari's eye sight. But she cannot continue that for long and slowly a romance blossoms between Kunjimalu and Haridas.

Most of the cast are newcomers, including Archana Kavi who portrays the role of Kunjimalu played by Ambika in the original version and Kamlesh who will step into the role played by Ravikumar. Suresh Nair, another debutant, will be seen as Appukkuttan, the character that Sattar did in the original. Also in the cast are Samvrutha Sunil, Reema Kallingal and Sreedevi Unni. G.Suresh Kumar is producing the film, under the banner of Revathi Kalamandhir. Vijay Ulaknath will wield the camera. Music is scored by Vidya Sagar for Vayalar Shartchandra Varma's lyrics. The movie is slated for release in October.

Kappal Muthalaali Movie Review

Kappal Muthalaali movie is about a central government employee Thulaseedharan (Ramesh Pisharady) who is son of an employee in a passport office. The father died while at office. Later Thulaseedharan got the job of father by the consideration of die in harness. But to clear his debt, Thulasi decided to take voluntary retirement.

From the amount he received from voluntary retirement, he bought a plot for building a resort. Nearer to his new plot was the house of Gulf Chandi (Jagathy Sreekumar). Chandi has no children and he loved his car like his own child. After buying the plot Thulaseedaran built compound wall for the property. This wall blocked the entry to Chandi’s house. Due to this issue Thulasi and Chandi became enemies.

When the resort’s work was in progress the workers got the remains of an old ship. The archeology department notified this place heritage. As he knew his effort to build a resort in that property will become futile, he decided to sell the plot. He approached Chandi for the purpose.
Kappal Muthalali’ is said to be comedy movie, directed by the comedy specialist Thaha. All the lead roles in this movie are played by newcomers. The film will be produced by Rameez Raja and Mummy Century under the banner Century Vision. Thaha is a successful director, since his debut and very good at slapstick comedies. This film will also be a successful one like his other movies. Sarayu, a degree student from Eranakulam has made an excellent performance, and could not be told as a debutant. Thus it is fortunate that she got a lead role in this movie. Ramesh Pisharodi will play the hero, who debuted in the movie ‘Positive’. He is good at comedy roles which he had already proved in his previous movie. The movie is carried with hilarious comedy, with Mukesh, Jagathy, Thilakan, Jagadeesh, Salim Kumar, Suraj, Mamu Koya, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and many others.

The director who specialises in making Slapstick comedies Thaha is back to business with the new movie titled as ‘Kappal Muthalali’. Featuring popular television and stage star Ramesh Pisharaady as the hero, the movie will give space to Sarayu to play the female lead of the movie. Ramesh Pisharaady, a great timer of comedy debuted into cinema with an important role in V K Prakash’s ‘Positive’, which sadly went unnoted.

Apart from its relatively fresh lead stars Thaha will support the cast with big names like Mukesh, Jagadheesh, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jaffer Idukky, Biju Kuttan, Salimkumar, and Bheeman Reghu. This hilarious movie which is continuing with its shoot at Perumbavoor will be cinematographed by Shamdut.

Thaha had been successful in creating slapstick from the very beginning of his career with hit films like ‘Mookilla Rajyathu’, Varabhalam and Ee Parakkum Thalika. But of late, his movies like ‘Hailasa’ and ‘Thekkaekara’ super fast didn’t yield the expected results at the Box Office.

Movie Review Gokula Kannada

GOKULA Cast & Crew
Director: Prakash Producer: Thashvini Prakash Music Director: Mano Murthy
Release Date: 27 Nov 2009
Genre: Family
Language: Kannada

The Story : Gokula movie revolves around four orphans who leave the orphanage and get adjusted to life. Vijay Raghavendra and Pooja Gandhi are in lead roles. Vijay and Yash Plays the role of orphans while Pooja plays the role of a medical student.

The renovated cinema hall bears a new name and looks roomy and clean. Ditto ‘Gokula’, Prakash’s offering after ‘Vamshi’. It has room for action, sentiment and humour while appearing clean, at first.Prakash provides engaging fare, with superb support from M S Ramesh in the first half. Inspirations and influences do not matter mainly due to the dialogues, which are crisp and mercifully, not overdone.

The story moves on smoothly and it is to the director’s credit that it appears credible. The situations are neither contrived nor melodramatic, except perhaps the climax, which drags a bit, but is saved by Ramesh’s dialogues again. His casting is also spot on. A restrained Vijay makes minimum use of his mannerisms, allowing others, particularly Yash, to upstage him. Pavan Kumar and Raghuraj provide perfect foil, one restraining himself and the other, earnest. Pooja Gandhi could have done without flaunting her body – her hair and warm smile do the job for her. Nakshatra makes a confident debut, but is let down by the length and incomplete characterisation of her role.

Srinivasamurthy and Sumithra as the couple yearning for their dead son lend that touch of dignity that is slowly vanishing from the screens today. Manomurthy and Satya Hegde complement each other. ‘Gokula’ makes subtle use of motifs – Mathura orphanage to the bungalow Gokula.

The theme of filial love, in that sense, has been given mature treatment. Likewise, the costume design deserves mention for being meticulous and not spoiling the continuity of each character.
Choreography is good too – Ragini is stylish, not giving enough reason to support the ‘item number’ controversy. Time to head to Gokula now.

Naan Avan illai Tamil Movie Review 2009

Director: Selva Producer: Hitesh Jabak Music Director: D. Imman
Release Date: 27 Nov 2009
Genre: Action - Romance
Language: Tamil
Certification: A

When the original Tamil movie Naan Avan Illai (I'm Not Him) released decades ago, with a cherubic looking Gemini Ganesan denying his affairs until he was blue in the face, the movie attained some sort of cult status for its witty dialogues, intriguing screenplay and the complete change of image for the actor.

Its remake tasted similar success, which is why the makers, Jhabak Movies, have decided to repeat the formula in the form of Naan Avan Illai -- 2, directed by Selva, with essentially the same team as before. Though Jeevan is the lead, the whole battalion of heroines has changed.

With D Imman scoring the music, here's what the album has to offer:
First up is what seems to be the hero's introduction song Manmadha Leelai with specially remixed lines from Manmadha Leelai, given a classical twist by Nithyashree, Shailhada and Ben G. M K Thyagaraja's version mingles with rap, shifting instantly to pop. Despite having familiar tones, it doesn't sound all that bad chiefly because of the Naan Avanillai refrain. Pa Vijay's lyrics list out this movie's casanova's many merits and "virtues" which translate cleverly to the chorus, and end, in a rather hilarious fashion, with the "Rambha [ Images ]…" dialogue.

Neha Bhasin begins Thooyavaney in a sensuous fashion accompanied by guitar strings; Vivega's lyrics are the mandatory romantic lines but the song, though inspired heavily by some Harris Jeyaraj numbers, is mildly appealing. It keeps to a steady pace; Neha's voice is pitched well and the faintly Braveheart-esque tones are pleasant. A familiar, but nevertheless charming piece.

Southern Aroma, a short track, begins with a heavy blast of percussion that ranges anywhere from synthesized energy to folksy instruments. After that, it shifts, predictably, to kuthu rhythm.

After the quite passable numbers, Naangu Kangal descends back to Imman's trademark rhythms and notes despite Javed Ali and Shreya Ghoshal [ Images ] trying to revive it with their dexterous voices. Pa Vijay's words follow the set patterns of romantic numbers; all about honey, hearts, souls and eternal bonding.

The next number has been penned by Vaali and comedian Mayilsami makes a play by talking about repeating his numbers; rendered by Jyotsna, and the deep voice of D Imaan. True to the opening lines of O Mariya, the song's been fleshed out with a heavy Latino beat that mutates into synthesized mish-mash, borrowing lyrics very liberally from a dozen romantic songs. It's actually interesting though not intriguing from a melodious point of view but the lyrics are entertaining, especially as they're all Vaali's words.

Yugabharathi's typically syrupy words begin Sollamaley, sung by Sadhana Sargam who tries valiantly to transform a mediocre song into something that approaching interesting. She succeeds once or twice but otherwise, it's pretty run-of-the-mill.

Udit Narayan is back with Suvi to render Baaga Unnaara, written by Vivega and in completely kuthu fashion. This one is meant for the front-benchers.
Naan Avan Illai -- 2 is a collection of kuthu songs and would-be enthusiastic tunes but it has a couple of numbers that snag your attention and make it worth a listen.

De Dana Dan Hindi Movie Review

De Dana Dan Movie Review
Director: Priyadarshan
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy
Rating: 2.5

De Dana Dan almost marks a decade of the end of the sensitivity and sensibility of director Priyadarshan who switched on to commercially driven comedy capers post the success of Hera Pheri . De Dana Dan also almost marks a decade of the widespread acceptability that the slapstick genre has gained in scarcity of sane comedies.

Going by its casting, do not expect De Dana Dan to be a sequel, tribute or extension of the Hera Pheri series. Forget the threesome chemistry, there is hardly a single frame in the film where the trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal share screen space. Except of course for the trademark Priyadarshan style chaotic climax where again their chemistry is diluted (literally through flooding fuss) as the entire cast joins them for more commotion.

Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is a driver under debt and Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) is a courier boy who hasn’t delivered much in life. Though both have already assigned girlfriends (Katrina, Sameera) for them, the film still takes too long to come to point. Money is the need of the hour and so Priyadarshan does some hera pheri in the story – which means a kidnap. Just this time the duo kidnaps a canine and you wonder if the film is going to the dogs.

As you try to keep a count on the ever-increasing character artists, the entire cast checks-in a five star hotel. Soon the story takes the shape of the 1992 Hollywood flick ‘ Blame it on the Bellboy ’ which was remade in Bollywood just a year ago as ‘ One Two Three ’ (and also starred Sunil Shetty and Sameera Reddy). A comedy of errors ensues with characters doing Bhagam Bhag throughout the hotel.

Call it a ‘wardrobe’ disaster but Akshay Kumar is locked in one for practically an hour of the film’s runtime. With a seemingly lost Sunil Shetty and a screeching loud Paresh Rawal, it’s left up to the character artists to save the ship. But a flood is induced in the climax as the director seeks inspiration from another Hollywood flick ‘ The Towering Inferno ’ (1974) with each character going down the drain.

Following the characters' introductions there is nowhere for this story to go as Campion relies solely on the poetry of Keats to sell the film's emotional core. Whether Keats and Brawne are finishing each other's sentences or simply reciting poetry aloud over long walks in the forest, the sap from this material is murky and deep and turned me off completely. The final hour of this two-hour dramaturgy had me looking at my watch every 5-10 minutes, anxious for it all to end. I haven't experienced a romance that annoyed me this much since 2004's The Notebook, and I would even say that mess of a film would be more welcome at this point.
Much has been made about Cornish's performance as Fanny Brawne and she was perfectly fine in my opinion, but nothing to write home about. Then again, that may be because seeing her crying in the corner while surrounded by dead butterflies was just too much for me to handle. Ben Whishaw as Keats is also gaining attention, but to say his quiet performance is anything more than slightly above average is a drastic exaggeration.

Debutant director Prabhu Srinivas who is an established dance choreographer in South cinema has come out with Jeeva, a Kannada film which has been largely inspired by a couple of Hollywood and Korean thrillers.

He seems to have made a montage borrowed from some of the most thrilling sequences from non-Kannada films to make up for an under worked script which has way too many loop holes.
Though the thrills are effective, the love story is tedious and tests your patience till the last few sequences.
Jeeva is a pampered and irresponsible college student who falls for Janaki, a middle class girl. Janaki dislikes Jeeva's brashness and rejects him initially. Jeeva's much respected politician father is also insulted by Janaki. Finally Janaki decides to marry Jeeva, but gets a shock when her lover rejects her. Jeeva starts behaving in a peculiar fashion and loses all his friends and well wishers. Why he behaves so forms the rest of the story.
The story lacks any fresh elements. The confusion created in a hospital through exchange of medical reports does not come as a surprise element in the film as it has already been seen in Kannada films like Anuraagadha Alegalu directed by S Narayan which was released in 1993. The same element is seen in many successful non-Kannada films including Telugu film industry's legendary actor Akkineni Nageshwara Rao's block buster film Premabhishekham.

Prabhu Srinivas narrates the story with the proceedings leading to one twist after another. Rather than engaging the audience, these sequences drag for ever.

Except for the last thirty minutes where the film gains some momentum, the whole venture is loosely narrated with drab sequences. The so called comedy sequences in the earlier part of the film look too amateurish. Though he has been backed well by competent music director like Guru Kiran -- the melodious number Summane Yaake Bandhe haunts long after the film is over -- and a talented cinematographer like Sabha Kumar, the director has not made any attempts to narrate his film in an effective manner.

Prajwal Devaraj makes a serious effort to portray his character well. Certainly this film is the best in his career so far. Newbie actress Ruthwa looks good on screen and has potential. Veteran artists Chandrashekhar and Gurudatt have acted well.
Watch Jeeva for Prajwal's neat performance and Guru Kiran's music.

Gokula Music Review Kanada Movie 2009

People say Mano Murthy’s songs take time to grow on you; not necessarily, if you listen to the songs of Gokula. Some songs make an impression early on, and some fail miserably; either way, you will have an instant opinion. The music lacks the oomph Mano Murthy normally packs into his compositions; that ’something is missing’ feeling refuses to go away.

This album can be a good case study for ‘the effect of lyrics on the listenability of a song’. Music director and singers being constants, the words make all the difference. While Jayanth Kaikini’s words have loads of depth, meaning and manage to strike a chord, Dhananjaya’s lines sound rather hollow and haphazard. The Kaikini-Sonu combo rallies hard towards the finish line, but Mano Murthy (almost) succeeds in pulling them down.

Baruve Odi Odi (Karthik, Ritisha): A fun filled love song. Karthik and Rishita add a lot of life, and maintain the feel good factor throughout. Sprinkled with impromptu rap gigs at various parts, this song is bound to make you smile.

Aaramaage Idde naanu (Sonu Nigam, Shreya Goshal): It has all the ingredients of a good song, but the package sounds remarkably average. You can’t stop that ‘something is missing’ feeling when you hear it. Considering the quality of individual efforts, this song is a failure as a whole.
One By Two Jeevana (Tippu): Song to Avoid- No.1. The instrumental part starts off promisingly, but the lyrics and singing kill whatever build-up it achieved. Song wanders off aimlessly, and one tends to wonder where did it go wrong.

Maja Maadoke (Karthik, Ritisha): A party number no one would dance to. Lyrics are, again, the culprits, but music sounds a bit bland too. Singers who sounded so good in ‘Baruve odi Odi’ are surprisingly placid in this composition.

Neene Helu Nannadaavudu (Sonu Nigam): Soulful lyrics, soothing music, and excellent vocals. Need we say more? No one could have done justice to this song except for Sonu Nigam. You can feel the pain in the voice, and the guitar strumming in the background makes those hidden emotions come out exceptionally well.

Aaramaage Idde naanu- Remix (Sonu Nigam, Shreya Goshal): Remixes normally tend to be faster versions of their slower counterparts, with few beats added in; and most of the time, they degrade the original composition. This song is no exception to this trend.
Final verdict: Mano Murthy could have strung the individual performances together in a better way. This looks like an average effort, full of tracks which people will listen to for a few days, and move on to the next mediocre stuff. The team was exceptional, but the captain was off his best.

Namitha in Black Stallion
Sex queen Namitha has signed up to act in a Malayalam movie called "Black Stallion" and Namitha is paid 25 lakhs to perform in the sexy thriller. The undisputed glamor queen of Indian cinema Namitha is starring in a Malayalam movie for the first time. Kalabhavan Mani is playing the lead role in "Black Stallion" while actor Bala is performing a support role.
Namitha in Malayalam movie "Black Stallion"

25 lakhs is a lot of money and may be the highest paid in Malayalam industry for a heroine and Namitha will be squeezed every bit to do justice for her role. Black Stallion is produced by Jagadheesh Chandran under the banner of Kichu films; the script is by Rajesh Jayaraman.

Malayalam movie "Black Stallion" is an action thriller with six songs of course some of them will be spicy hot to utilize the full talent of Namitha in Mollywood style what a treat for viewers....mmmm... with lot of erotic scenes needed for a thriller movie. Namitha will be liberal in exposing her assets to her hard core fans as she is getting a hefty sum of money to do so. It is said that Namitha will be playing a bar girl dancing for men in skimpy clothes - what a role! absolutely fitting! Remember Namitha was caught in a blue film scandal last year when some videos and sexy pictures of Namitha changing dress in a caravan were supposedly released all over the internet. Namitha, south indian actress, denied the blue film rumors saying she never allowed any filming of her indoor activities.

I am sure the new Malayalam movie "Black Stallion" will be a must see for any Namitha fan - even though not sure about the entertainment value of the movie itself...but the director or producer will make sure to use the full talent of busty Namitha to the maximum extent.

t was way back in June 2008 when we had told you about the chartbusting potential and class of the audio album of the Karan Johar directed, Shahrukh Khan-Kajol starrer, MY NAME IS KHAN. We had broken the news about the scratch tunes of two background scores, one of which was then titled ''Sajda'' and was to be rendered by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Whether the title of the song has remained ''Sajda'' or not, is not confirmed but yes, our US based sources confirm that Rahat has indeed rendered the song and it has already been picturised on SRK and Kajol.

CHECK OUT: MY NAME IS KHAN creates a hurricane

In fact, a well known critic (print and broadcast media) who has recently seen the rushes of MNIK and also heard the songs was overwhelmed by what he saw and heard. He was all praises for the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music composers of MY NAME IS KHAN.
Well, we are not surprised; keeping in mind the excellent audio track record of the SRK-Karan team and KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, KAL HO NAA HO and KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA are standout examples of that!
While still on MNIK, it is believed that Fox Studio has picked up the worldwide rights of the film for Rs. 100 crores.

The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee Review 2009

Film details…
Classification:15
Director:Rebecca Miller
Cast:Robin Wright Penn, Alan Arkin, Blake Lively, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Julianne Moore, Monica Bellucci, Maria Bello

Adapted from her own novel, Rebecca Miller's star-studded fourth feature tells the story of a woman finding herself late in life. With Robin Wright Penn, Keanu Reeves and Julianne Moore
The very industrious Rebecca Miller, daughter of the late playwright Arthur Miller and wife to Daniel Day-Lewis, wrote the novel 'The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee', adapted it into a screenplay and directed the film. What emerges from this one-woman band isn't an introspective journey into one person's worldview but rather the opposite - a soft-focus, chocolate-box fairytale.

At around 50-years-old, with two grown-up children and nearly 30 years of married life behind her, the eponymous Pippa (Robin Wright Penn) is whisked away to a retirement community by her much older husband. Beginning from this excellent premise - what happens when the silver fox you bagged as a 20-year-old hottie becomes a geriatric burden, and you're still in the prime of life? - the film embarks on an attempt to discover what lies behind Pippa's perfect exterior.

The whole thing is vaguely reminiscent of post-war domestic dramas aimed at a daytime audience of housewives - like a photo-negative of Brief Encounter , as Pippa's unswerving devotion to her husband is rewarded with abandonment. Of course, things now aren't as they were then, so in place of the more visible repressions of previous generations, subtler pressures are at play.

Pippa, a well-tended trophy wife, is as well behaved as a trained pet. Her hidden hunger, anger and need are expressed in bouts of sleepwalking and sudden outbursts, which she apologises for like the absurdly overgrown good girl she is, with hand over mouth and wide eyes.

Mudhi Mudhi is delightfully Raja-ish in its arrangement, Shilpa Rao doing an equally wonderful job rendering the buoyant number. Though fleetingly reminiscent of his compositions like Ninnu Kori from Agni Nakshatram and Three In One, the song charms in all three of its variants, the other two being an almost similary orchestrated Udhi Udhi again rendered by Shilpa, and a mellowed down Gali Mudhi by Shaan. But after that treat, things take a sober turn. Gumm Summ Gumm is a reproduction of Raja’s classic Malayalam composition Thumbee Vaa from Olangal, coming in the voice of his daughter Bavatharini. The 1982 track has found its reproduction in various forms in various languages, but none have so far managed to capture the magic of the original. Neither does Gumm Summ.., in spite of the clever improvisations like the jazz sequence in the second interlude.
The southie feel continues with the Muslim-styled Hichki Hichki rendered by Sunidhi. And the way it sounds it doesn’t seem to be of the type that will hold your interest for more than a couple of listens. Halke Se Bole sees yet another poor reproduction of an Ilayaraja classic of yore, this time Putham Pudhu Kaalai from Alaigal Olivathillai, the chorus idea turning rather unsavory. Mere Paa is not as enjoyable for the song part as for the novelty in Amitabh Bachchan’s childish rendition. And the interludes by Ilayaraja. This song should turn much more entertaining with the visuals. The Theme song which closes the proceedings is a nice appealing tune, the same that appears in Mere Paa. The chorus version could have been replaced with a pure instrumental one though.

With just one truly exceptional tune in Mudhi Mudhi, Ilayaraja produces a just-about-average soundtrack for Paa, at least for his calibre. And looks like my dream to hear a totally non-recycled Raja album in Hindi will remain a dream forever!

De Dana Dan (2009) Music Album Review:-

1. Rishte Naate
Specialty of this song is it's sweet music by Pritam. Lyrics are not on the original side but beautifully sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, will surely be favorite for many music lovers.

2. Paisa
This is deadly song. Easily the song of the year if you want to compare it in terms of popularity. This is remix of a Punjabi song from Manak-E combined with extraordinary music by Pritam.

3. Gale Lag Ja
The Zee SaReGaMa challenge finalist Banjyotsna voice came surprisingly very good. She does sounds like Sunidhi Chauhan at times but again the music is what sets this song apart from anything you heard before.

4. Baamulaiza
The flow of this song is very different and you may have never experienced before. Starts on pretty childish note but pick up just nice. It is one of those catchy songs you like you hum along.

5. Hotty Naughty
There are no two ways about this song. Not Happening and i don't think someone may love this naughty shauty nonsense.

6. Rishte Naate (Remix)
Kunal Ganjawala and Suzanne Demello have reworked this song to make it more entertaining. There is nothing wrong in this version but i prefer the first one only.

Overall Music Review of De Dana Dan
De Dana Dan Music Album is an explosive collection of songs with fast, peppy and powerful musical display. Paisa song is an absolute killer with equally good De Dana Dan song. Remixes are on the down side as these are composed by different DJ's. Pritam and RDB - the music directors shines again with mostly new and refreshing songs.

EXPECTATIONS
In the last couple of years, Himesh Reshammiya has been lying low when it comes to composing music. The same man who once gave more than three dozen chartbusters in a row had just one major soundtrack releases last year in the form of Karzzzz, the music of which did become immensely popular. Meanwhile, Himesh got selective in his assignments and worked only on those films where he came up with a package deal of an actor, composer and singer. It's the same package deal in the offering with Radio. One change though - instead of Sameer being his partner as a lyricist, it's Subrat Sinha who has been roped in.

How does the album turn out? Well, it's as simple as this - One can't take the composer out of Himesh Reshammiya. He surprises, and how, with an altogether different approach to music that he takes with Radio. He was a trendsetter 4 years back; and now he may well create a new trend if the songs of Radio are any indication.

MUSIC
A much sober and subdued Himesh is heard in 'Mann Ka Radio', the opening track of the film. In the first listening, all one ends up focusing is on lyrics that go as 'Mann Ka Radio'. Frankly, it's hard to digest. However, as one gives the number a few repeat hearing, it's the music and the singing (in Himesh's new voice) that takes centre stage. What further impresses is the overall soft mood of the song that does the trick. Once the song reaches it's 'antra' portion, one gets to hear a little of Himesh in his vintage style as well. The 'remix version' only elevates the song further as it heads straight for the club. A good beginning.

Before the album concludes, Himesh presents himself a solo in the form of 'Rafa Dafa Kiya Nahi Nahin Jaaye'. A number about moving on in life, this one is a good attempt by Subrat Sinha as he pens something different from the 'dard-e-tanhai' genre that has been beaten to death. A slow moving track that is primarily for situational appeal, it doesn't harm the overall flow of Radio which ultimately turns out to be much more than just a satisfying album.

OVERALL
Radio, in one word, is 'brilliant'. In three words, it can be described as 'Himesh is Back'. And in one sentence, it would be right to say that 'Himesh creates something that what he is capable of doing so'. One wonders whether he too was aware of this fact that he had it in him to compose and sing songs like 'Janeman', 'Piya Jaise', 'Shaam Ho Chali Hai' and 'Koi Na Koi', all in one single album. He makes a huge impression with Radio that is sure to hit the top spot in the charts in quick time. Strongly recommended!

Kassim the Dream: hollywood Movie 2009

Genres: Documentary

This is the story of World Champion Boxer, Kassim "The Dream" Ouma - born in Uganda, kidnapped by the rebel army and trained to be a child soldier at the age of 6. When the rebels took over the government, Kassim became an army soldier who was forced to commit many horrific atrocities, making him both a victim and perpetrator. He soon discovered the army's boxing team and realized the sport was his ticket to freedom. After 12 years of warfare, Kassim defected from Africa and arrived in the United States.
Homeless and culture shocked, he quickly rose through the boxing ranks and became Junior Middleweight Champion of the World. Kassim, now age 27, seems to have obtained the American Dream with his jovial nature, fame and hip hop lifestyle. As Kassim trains for his next world title fight against Jermain Taylor in Little Rock Arkansas, keeping his demons out of the ring becomes increasingly difficult. His desires to reunite with family in Uganda intensify when Kassim's only hope for a safe return is a military pardon from the president and government responsible for his abduction

Born in Uganda in 1978, Kassim Ouma was abducted by rebels when he was six and trained to kill and torture. His journey from child soldier to boxing champion is the basis for Kassim the Dream, a moving and at times chilling documentary. Full of obvious good intentions, the film still suffers from a rambling narrative that leaves too many loose ends. A natural for fight fans, Kassim will find a wider audience in home markets.

Producer and director Kief Davidson ( The Devil's Miner) opens by blending shots of Ugandan troops on patrol with footage from several of Ouma's boxing matches. With his biography outlined, the fighter then tells his story in his own words. An ebullient personality, Ouma positively beams while recounting his nightmarish past, including the loss of his parents and his participation in several murders. Boxing brought relief from his army duties, and gave him the opportunity to desert while on a tour of the United States.

Although homeless at first, Ouma established a base at the Alexandria Boxing Club in Arlington, Virginia. Within a year he was fighting professionally, under the guidance of manager Tom Moran, boxing trainer Fred Mutaweta, and physical trainer Jeff Goldstein. Defeating Verno Phillips earned him the International Boxing Federation's Junior Light Middleweight Championship.

A large portion of the film shows Ouma training for a match against middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. Workouts are broken up by interviews in which Ouma talks about his family, especially his father, who was murdered after his son defected. Scenes of Ouma with his mother Rose Nakagwa and his sons Ounda and Umar are disarming but not always essential. While Tony Molina's camera catches the fighter drinking and smoking pot, the film glosses over Ouma's scrapes with the law.Ouma clearly enjoys playing to the camera, and he is expert at gauging what his listeners want to hear, whether they are drug dealers or congressional representatives. When he is given permission to return to Uganda for the first time in years, the film abruptly shifts in tone. Face to face with his past, the fighter is shaken, unmoored. More than Uganda's pervasive poverty, it is the underlying menace of President Yoweri Museveni's regime that seems to affect Ouma the most.

Visiting the barracks where he trained as a youth, reunited with his grandmother, collapsing on his father's tombstone, Ouma becomes a different person, one without the help and support he found in the States. This should have been the heart of the film, but Davidson treats it as an afterthought. Viewers deserve more, even if Ouma's image is tarnished a bit in the process.

Running Time: 99 minutes
MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong bloody stylized violence throughout, and language.

When the film opened on the cushy den of a Chinese crime gang, I was worried. Our first sight is of an uncouth Chinese gangster, getting a tattoo of a dragon. All around him drip the gaudy trimmings of a gangster lair — an update on the opium den, as seen through the orientalist eyes of a Western director. The gang’s honchos wait on low benches of plushy, silky pillows; they flash gold handguns (don’t Chinese people love gold?!), and a pretty lady sips champagne, casting a bored eye over the scene.
Then, the leader receives an envelope of black sand. What happens next?
Why the Ninjas storm in! Thank goodness there’s no ration on fake blood because these guys chop and hack away, severing limbs like they’re bread loaves, killing everyone in sight and saving the movie from a flashy, ludicrous vision of Asian criminals and replacing it with a more romantic stereotype: the ancient Ninja, whose street cred lies in his adherence to tradition and his disapproval of speeding bullets and CGI.
There hasn’t been a full-blown, high-budget Ninja feature film in a while — the genre’s been on a downswing as of late. So when the Wachowski brothers (the duo behind The Matrix and V for Vendetta) jumped on the script and cast Rain, king of K-Pop, Kung Fu Cinema called it a “move with the potential to single-handedly revive the ninja genre.”
And oh, it will.
Rain, prepared for battle. Photo Credit: Warner Brothers
Not only for the film’s edge-of-your seat, uber-violent fight scenes, but for the beauty of the thing: Ninjas-in-training fight in the dark among suspended balls of fire in a high-up, walled mountain lair…And let’s not forget the beauty of our star, Rain, who for this picture went from an adorable bubblegum pop-star to a chiseled leading man who can squeeze grapes in the ridges of his new six-pack. Plus, the acting isn’t half bad. Rain doesn’t have many lines–but he does a fine, steady job delivering them. And leading lady Naomie Harris is friggin’ great.

The film follows the story of the Ozunu, an ancient Ninja clan that for centuries have been assassinating world leaders in exchange for 100 bars of gold, which they presumably use to keep their high-up, mountain fort well-stocked. To thicken their ranks, the Ozunu take in Japanese orphans and put them through the rounds. We see a young Raizo (Rain’s character, played as a teenager by Joon Lee) endure relentless, painful ninja training — to name just one form of torture, he learns the art of learning to walk silently on wooden floorboards by getting his feet slashed whenever he makes a squeak. The leading trainer is Sho Kosugi, legendary Hollywood Ninja of 1981’s Enter the Ninja, and it’s a delight to see him go through the rounds — training another generation both of wannabe Ninjas and Ninja-movie fans. The young Raizo develops a romantic relationship with a girl Ninja (ACTOR’S NAME, kicking ass)…but when she attempts to run away and is brought back and mutilated, he loses his faith in his trainers.

Love interest Mika in the useless Europol compound. Photo Credit: Warner Brothers
The film then breaks from romantic, smoky training compound to show us Berlin today — a city of car-honks and halogen lighting — where “Europol” (think Interpol) operative Mika is investigating the connections between a series of unsolved assassinations. In a sequence of smarty-pants moves she traces bank withdrawals back to the Ozunu, and then the fun begins.

Ninjas, she learns, only attack in the dark, slipping out from the shadows (that’s what makes them NINJAS!)… so when we see her coming home to her apartment to find the power’s just gone off and decide to enter anyway with just some dinky mag-lite, our hearts jump into our throats as if this were some kind of horror film. The filmmakers use light and shadow (and our fear of the dark) to great effect, and it’s splendidly inventive to see a fight between two-warring ninjas illuminated by only her flashlight. What she’s watching is the ninja sent to assassinate her fighting one that has come to protect her.

Rain, battling in the smoky-hot smoke. Photo Credit: Warner Brothers
That protector is, of course, Raizo/Rain. And why is he protecting her? He’s broken free from the gang and wants someone to uncover their dark history. She follows his tips — how to mask her scent, where to drive — and working together they attempt to elude both the Ninja gang and Europol, which, of course, doesn’t like the idea of one of their own going off with a proven assassin.
The film plays the typical cards of an action film — lots of high-speed chase scenes and darting kisses in the rain — but remains playful and light. And it’s nice to see an action movie about analog violence (with swords and punches!) en lieu of machine guns. Still, basically every scene shows Rain encircled by his former classmates as he fights them off one-by-one, which begs one still wonders — the five-hundredth action film later — why they can’t all just pounce on him at once.

But realism isn’t the point here. The film is aware of its ridiculous goriness. A scene of a woman’s head rolling around in a laundromat washing machine, oozing blood all over the white tiled floor, cuts straight to the splat of ketchup on an Europol operative’s fries. It’s a Quentin-Tarantino-esque vision of Hong Kong kung fu–an action pic that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Europol’s heat-vision camera is useless at detecting the Ninjas. All it shows is one of its own getting squeezed by a long metal chain, and the blood oozing out a bright, hot red. Best line? Of the captured Rain, an agent says: “He doesn’t look like a killing machine to me. He looks like he’s in a boy band.”

What ever now they have to face it together and it was not a easy thing for them. Vicki (Kelly Preston) was stunning in the movie and she lets the two grate friends to take care of the wild kids for a while. Film was so impressive with the child adventures and it clears all the kid fantasy and making a wonderful comedy movie. as always American comedy movies are leading from the front with new exploring things. Old Dogs (2009) does prove how desperation need to stay close to kids and two of this dad and uncle have been into all shorts of troubles in the movie.

It was the life’s more entertaining time for both men’s with having loads of experiences as a dad and uncle. But then they decide to get help from co-worker (Seth Green) and it was bit success and with him they manage to hold the two kids and the dog. How ever with some of the child adventures Dan and Charlie gets in to trouble and poor guys are having a grate time with out door activities. With using these adventures movie tries to navigate more humor into the movie and at times It can take any one by surprise.

Instructor (Matt Dillon) was up against these two wild cats and they also have to deal with him. In the camp they had few crashes with him and all those count them as experience. After all they found the true meaning of a family with these cute kids. Old Dogs (2009) movie was directed by Walt Becker and he was ever too good with handling comedies. Wild Hogs (2007) and Buying the Cow (2002) are few of his directions. Movie was produced by Andrew Panay, Peter Abrams and Robert L. Levy. Ella Blue Travolta also joins in the cast of actors. Has there ever been so much riding on a single film? Particularly one about singing amphibians? The Princess and the Frog marks Disney's first traditionally animated feature since the 2004 flop Home on the Range, after which the studio (and its peers) pushed all its chips into computer animation. ''There was a feeling that people didn't want to watch hand-drawn animation anymore,'' says Disney-Pixar honcho John Lasseter. ''That's ludicrous. When you see Frog, you cannot imagine it in CG.''

Lasseter enlisted directors Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) to reinvent the Grimm fairy tale ''The Frog Prince.'' The film's twist: When the princess kisses the cursed royal amphibian, she turns into one too. Oh, and the story's set in 1920s New Orleans and centers on Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Disney's first animated African-American heroine. ''We maybe didn't realize the impact of that,'' says Clements. ''But we made every effort to be as sensitive as possible.'' Tiana, a tenacious waitress who dreams of owning her own restaurant, is loosely based on New Orleans' famed chef Leah Chase. ''Leah's big thing was how food brought people together,'' says Musker. With Frog, Disney hopes to do just that. And perhaps sell a doll or two.

The Road Movie Review (2009)

Info:
Movie: The Road
Rating: R
Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Garret Dillahunt, Michael K. Williams and Molly Parker
Written By: Joe Penhall
Directed By: John Hillcoat
Distributor: The Weinstein Company
Series:

Science fiction filmmaking doesn't get more profound or moving than The Road. Indeed, it embodies everything the genre is supposed to be about, using hypothetical supposition to illuminate the deepest truths of the human condition. The scenario it posits has been explored a thousand times before (the end of the world and what happens afterwards) but rarely has it seemed so chillingly believable. So too does its earnest defense of basic humanism--in our ability to hold onto our souls, even in the most appalling circumstances--resonate with raw, unvarnished strength.

We never learn what causes the film's apocalypse, but whatever it is, it's as bad as they come. Plant and animal life is essentially extinct; the trees have all died and great forests of them now crash down one by one into the ash-strewn landscape. There are no more governments or social organizations. Those few humans who survive are reduced to scavenging among the ruins, hoping for an odd can of peas… or else turning on their fellows to claim the only fresh meat available. The possibility of cannibalism deeply troubles the unnamed protagonist (Viggo Mortensen).

While he refuses to consider the possibility himself, he has a twelve-year-old son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) to look after, and would rather put a bullet in both their heads than end up on someone's dinner menu. The two of them are heading south--from where or to where, we never quite know, save that things might be better where they're going. The need to find that hypothetical sanctuary counters the fatalistic realization that this may truly be the end, giving father and son alike the power to soldier on.

Director John Hillcoat envisions this world in a perpetual state of winter. The landscape remains uniformly gray, broken only by the remnants of our former civilization rapidly succumbing to the elements. Emaciated survivors prowl the fringes like living corpses, opting to survive by any means necessary and destroying who they are in the process. Like the best post-apocalyptic films, The Road recognizes perils beyond the mere physical, and with a child who literally means everything to him, Mortensen's hero is sore pressed to avoid them all. He has an instinct for survival, as evinced by earlier interactions with his wife (Charlize Theron) while the world crumbles around them. But in his battles with monstrosity, he runs the risk of becoming a monster himself: casting out decent souls who may need his help just because he can't trust them to play square with him. When blended with Mortensen's natural intensity, it creates a figure at once compelling and frightening, the perfect embodiment of this stunning global death rattle.

The overall plausibility of the vision accompanies strangely surreal moments, manifesting in a quieter subtext which ironically reinforces the film's realism. The rare occupied house takes on aspects of a fairy tale witch's abode, while approaching people look strikingly monstrous despite their comparatively normal faces. The original book by Cormac McCarthy is purportedly more overtly allegorical (I haven't read it), though it's hard to imagine his prose holding more devastation than the images on display here.

And yet even in the midst of the bleakest movie atmosphere in years, glimmers of something better arise. A junebug, a rainbow near a waterfall, an unexpected cache of food… small bursts of hope appear out of nowhere, sometimes preceding a moment of sheer horror but reminding us that the struggle is still worthwhile. That remains The Road's strongest asset: its refusal to submit to its own bleak view. It takes a huge effort to balance basic human dignity against a calamity so great: either one side or the other is bound to feel like a cop-out. But Hillcoat understands that the veracity of one hinges on the persistence of the other, binding them together in a way which strengthens both halves of the equation. It certainly doesn't make for light entertainment, but its power cannot be denied, and for all of its bleak content, the final equation proves surprisingly optimistic. Victory lies in the battle, not the resolution, and our own proclivities can either lift us through that coming night or hasten its arrival. It's all up to us: a message The Road delivers with impeccable perfection.

The screenplay by Holly Gent Palmo and Vincent Palmo Jr. is based on the novel by Robert Kaplow, a coming-of-age story set in the heady world of New York theatre. Efron plays a teenage student who lucks his way into a minor role in the 1937 Mercury Theatre production of "Julius Caesar," directed by 22-year-old genius Orson Welles. In the words of Kaplow's protagonist: "This is the story of one week in my life. I...

Movie Review:You might expect this low-budget recreation of Orson Welles’s New York stage production of Julius Caesar to be typical Sundance fare; amusing, but instantly forgettable. Lo and behold, however, “Me and Orson Welles,” under the direction of Richard Linklater (“Before Sunset,” “Dazed and Confused”), is a sensation blessed with remarkable acting, authentic-looking production values, and enough energy to turn a Cadillac gas-guzzler into a hybrid. To travel from Roland Emmerich’s bloated, $260 million “2012” to Linklater’s “Me and Orson Welles” is to go from the ridiculous to the sublime. While some would say that this movie is targeted to lovers of theater, it’s nice to have faith that a regular audience with broad, but sensitive tastes, would gobble the movie up. It doesn’t hurt that the poster-perfect Greek-godlike Zac Efron stars, a guy who should be able to rival “Twilight Series”’ Robert Pattinson as a teen heartthrob, and besides Mr. Efron (“High School Musical,” “Hairspray”) is a year younger—22 to Pattinson’s over-the-hill 23.

Yet the real acting honors go to Christian McKay, who does a spot-on impersonation of Orson Welles when that great actor-director was Efron’s age, though McKay looks quite a bit older, but who cares when the man’s theatrical delivery is enough to make one cut back on movies and devote some time—and lots of money—to Broadway theater.

Adapting Robert Kaplow’s novel, Holly Gent Palmo and Vince Palmo re-create some fiction within the framework of Welles’s actual directing of Shakespeare’s “Caesar,” which Welles made contemporary by suiting the actors in the style of Fascist Rome during the twenties and thirties. If you want to know what rehearsals are like for professional stage productions, the madness, the ersatz heart attacks of scared performers, the bellowing of the director who in this case serves as a major actor, this is the film to see. Though photographed not in New York’s 41st Street where the original Mercury Theater stood (now an office building without even a plaque to mark the historic place), Linklater makes good use of the restored Gaiety Theatre in Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, population 23,000. Outdoor scenes are set in constructed sets at Pinewood Studios, which devised a replica of the world’s greatest city as it appeared 72 years ago. The British Museum stands in for the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where a Grecian Urn and a young couple standing before it in admiration forms a classy near-conclusion.

Richard Samuels (Zac Efron), a bored, 17-year-old high-school student, gets the chance to rise well beyond his years on a chance encounter with Orson Welles on a street outside the Mercury theater. While Richard prepares for a small role as Lucius in the Shakespeare play—which every middle school student used to know before the advent of the iPhone—he attracts the affection of Sonja (Claire Danes), who serves as a theater assistant manager. Richard is cautioned about Welles’s prima donna status, advised never to criticize the man who is about to make theater history by presenting a souped-up, pared-down, ninety-minute, contemporary version of “Julius Caesar.”

During the hectic weeks of preparation where everything goes wrong, Welles surveys the kingdom like a pampered prince, enjoyed assignations with actresses and assistants who do not get paid but look upon this experience as a way to jump-start their careers. When Richard becomes romantically involved with Sonja, competing with the director whose starlets must be willing to head to Welles’s assignation apartment at any time, the big, expected showdown occurs, all witnessed by Mercury Theater co-founder John Houseman (Eddie Marsan) and George Coulouris (Ben Chaplin), in the key role of Marc Antony.

As strikingly handsome and assertive as Efron’s character, Richard Samuels comes across, the show belongs to Christian MacKay in a stellar performance that could well be the talk of the guilds during this awards season.

Set during China’s Tang Dynasty, two robbers enter the a seemingly tranquil village where they encounter a beautiful woman, a group of soldiers, and a village leader scheming to kill the two men.

A pair of amoral thieves end up defending a tiny village they initially came to pilfer in “The Robbers,” a rambunctious black comedy in period duds that plays like a Chinese riff on “Seven Samurai.” More ironic than knockabout in its humor, and packing an earthy punch in its action sequences, this is an intelligent crowdpleaser with some limited commercial potential beyond East Asia, especially if platformed at Western fests.

In his second feature, self-trained filmmaker Yang Shupeng (aka Leon Yang) delivers on the promise shown in his 2007 WWII drama, “The Cold Flame,” especially in his handling of actors and mood. Yang’s offhandedly witty script — whose flavor was not fully reflected in the subtitles on the print caught — is brought vividly to life by leads Hu Jun and Jiang Wu, whose screen chemistry holds the movie together.Clever editing manages to pack a lot into the tight running time without any feeling of haste, and an excellent score (part orchestral, part Beijing Opera-like) binds the film’s several moods together. Shooting in an actual (redressed) village in Zhejiang province, helmer Yang gets the most out of the landscape in a down-and-dirty way, as well as plenty of physical oomph in the battles with the soldiery.

BUSAN, South Korea — A Tang Dynasty village is the setting for Yang Shupeng’s “The Robbers,” a confused and mostly pointless action-comedy-drama about two professional thieves unwittingly coming to the defense of a community being harassed by soldiers. Almost anything from Mainland China is a hot property these days, and the presence of star Hu Jun (”Red Cliff,” “Lan Yu”) could help sell it to art house markets. For the most part, however, this is festival stuff, and not nearly arty enough for some. Anyone looking for the second coming of “Hero” is advised to look elsewhere.

Xue Shi San (Hu Jun) and Chen Liu (Jiang Wu) are partners in crime who show up at Ma Qi’s home asking for water. They claim they’re passing hunters but eventually show their true thieving colors. As they’re about to make off with some booty, a squad of soldiers passes through, and in a bid to save Ma’s daughter Luo Niang, from rape, the duo fight them off. Now wanted men, Xue and Chen try to get away but are recaptured in order to be turned over to the next group of soldiers. There are more escape attempts and more debating within the town council such as it is before it’s discovered there is indeed honor among thieves, and Xue and Chen lead the villagers in their own defense-which fails miserably.

“The Robbers” swings between comedy, drama, action and romance (Chen falls in love with Luo Niang and tells the story in flashback), never quite settling on any one for any stretch of time. The result is a scattered, disjointed narrative that is unable to pull viewers in, peopled with flat, one-dimensional characters that are hard to empathize with. Many of the themes Yang explores are common to Chinese cinema (loyalty, brotherhood, wealth above all else) and so expectations aren’t shaken up on that front. But if Yang has another message it doesn’t really come through.

The fight choreography, the cinematography, and the performances all lean toward bland. Hu has been better, and the supporting cast has little more than sketches to work from. And the constant mention of the grandness of the Tang never amounts to much. Nothing about “The Robbers” is incompetent — it’s just average.

Japanese Movie Review
Night after night, eccentric regulars gather at a quaint eating house located in the corner of a crossing in Tsukifune-cho. They include an old bookstore owner called “Master De Niro”, a young fruiterer who wishes to go to Irkutsk, a talkative hatter, and a struggling stage actress. “I”, an unspectacular man, is forced to buy a “double spatial migration device” and a book titled “The Strange tale of Thousand and One Red Pepper Night”, talks about outskirts of the universe, reminisces the “espresso machine”, and is asked to write a play. Gradually, these little events make “I” face his past and future

“No tricks and no gimmicks”, as one of the characters exclaim, but that’s not to say that this film has shoddy production values. Told in chapters probably to resemble the novel by Atsuhiro Yoshida from which this film is based upon, The Night of the Whirlwind Restaurant boasts some beautifully shot exteriors thanks to the wintry Hokkaido environment, and fuzzy warm interior tones reflective of the journey that the unnamed protagonist “I” (Norito Yashima) undertakes, where strangers in a standalone diner at Tsukifune become firm friends as the story unfolds.

However, the episodic treatment made it hard to identify deeply with the characters involved, most of whom are seemingly one-dimensional caricatures, making it quite an unfortunate, emotionally hollow story to follow. No doubt it’s a fantasy film with nostalgia a key theme where “I” reminisces about a father (Katsuhisa Namase) who supposedly vanished mysteriously. Flashbacks are used to bring his dad to life, in a time where magic was part and parcel of growing up, intricately tied to a barista and an expresso machine.

We don’t learn a lot about the protagonist, hence making his character a little bit of an enigma. His occupation is relatively strange too, studying artificial rainfall, so much so that he’s viewed as a “sensei” expert in a niche field. We also learn that he has a knack as a playwright, and these abilities opened up doors of friendship opportunities with the other diners. They all have their respective stories to tell, such as the aspiring actress (Sarara Tsukifune) wishing that “I” writes a role for her, and a talky mad hatter cum story-teller (Atomu Shimojo) trying to pass off a pedometer as a breakthrough fantasy item called the Binary Space Transporter, but these do not add further dimensions to these characters.

The more powerful narrative thread here happens to be on the relationship between the protagonist and his father, rather than the budding promise of a relationship with the actress which got hinted at. There’s a sense of longing for the days gone past with moments in the present which triggers the reminiscence, given the impact that that his dad had on an impressionable kid. Director Tetsuo Shinohara had this angle down pat perfectly, together with the beautifully crafted visuals in this adult fantasy tale.
As mentioned, the film still didn’t work for me as I found the little episodes doing little favours to the myriad of characters with whom I wanted to get acquainted with, though I suspect that fans of the original novel may take to the film a lot more with the thrill of seeing their literary characters being fleshed out, ripe for comparison.

But as she receives a call to join back her University in New York, Ehsaan proposes marriage. While her father initially disapproves of the match because of Ehsaan being a Muslim, he finally gives his nod impressed by Ehsaans approach. The couple goes to New York and finds a house in an Indian neighbourhood. But soon Avantika realizes her own husband is a major part of the terrorist sleeper cell operating there and is the reason for aeroplane blast that kills 140 people. She also comes to know that the terror outfits next plane is something as big as 9/11. How she unearths the plot with a journalist Riyaaz s (Vivek) aid and what it all leads forms the rest of the plot.

Writer Rensil DSilva (Rang De Basanti) making his directorial debut with Kurbaan delivers a taut thriller that keeps you engrossed throughout. Despite its long running time of over 2 hours and 40 minutes his gripping narrative has enough twists n turns and chilling moments. Cutting away from commercial cinema traps and unwanted cinematic liberties, he has made Kurbaan one of the best thrillers to be experienced on the big screen in recent times. Without taking any sides, the film manages to strike an impact leaving you shaken with the full of bloodshed climax. Super aid comes in form of Niranjan Iyengar and Anurag Kashyaps dialogues. They are precise and to the point without sounding preachy. The classroom sequence when American students question discuss terrorism and Islam and Vivek Oberois replies to them is one of the films most important and noteworthy sequence. Though the place drops a bit post interval, the 35 40 minute long climax keeps you on the edge of your seat. The much talked about love making sequence is very aesthetically shot. Salim Suleimans music is good and fits in the movie well with no lip sync songs.

Saif Ali Khan has always been very good whenever he has gone wicked and here as well he comes up triumphs in a grey role. The way he changes his body language and facial expressions from a charming romantic to a cold blooded terrorist is just superb. Kareena Kapoor proves yet again why she is considered a top rated actress today. However, in many emotional sequences she appears very similar in her act to her elder sister, Karisma. After a really very long time Vivek Oberoi leaves you extremely impressed. His mature act is bound to win him many accolades and awards for sure. Om Puri as the terrorist sleeper cell head is very good. Kirron Kher after a long time gets a non-Punjabi mom role and she is has delivered one of her career best performance in this one. Dia Mirza and Nauheed Cyrusi leave you impressed despite their short roles.

Hemant Chaturvedis camerawork matches international standards and so does Nakul Kamtes Sound work.
Finally, a big applause for Karan Johar for making under his Dharma Productions, a film which is very unlike any previous film made under his prestigious banner and one which is not only extremely well made but also very topical.
