Bollywood Actress Shilpa Shetty observes Mauna Vrat

Bollywood Gossip : Bollywood Actress Shilpa Shetty is observing a mauna vrat (vow of silence) as part of a wellness course that she is pursuing in Oneness University on the outskirts of Chennai and says it helped her to connect with herself.
“I’ve taken out some ‘me’ time. I have been so busy with people, things and attaining my goals that I had forgotten about myself. This place has helped me get in touch with myself. You must be intrigued how… well right now am doing a mauna, that is, where I am not allowed to talk to anyone, so practicing that, it’s difficult but enjoying it,” Shilpa Shetty posted on her blog.

“Not allowed to take any calls… could only check my emails,” she added.

The 34-year-old actress, who is a fitness and spirituality freak, says she seeks solace there in the company of her gurus — Amma and Bhagvan. “I follow their advice blindly, and it’s made a huge difference in my life, work and relationships,” she said.

Shilpa Shetty has gone there for a special course to rejuvenate herself after a “hectic six months”.
“This silence is so rare to find in our fast paced lives. It just comforts. There are no luxuries and that makes you value everything that you have. It’s also a cleansing process, which I feel we all need from time to time. The beauty is that the process is a spiritual journey without preaching.
“I would prescribe this place for anyone who needs a break and a different and positive way to living life,” she said.
What do you think her finance Raj Kundra feels about this act. Is it something related to their wedding plans ?

This movie does show the way to face the game. It want to just a game for them actually it was the life they always needed and pray for god. While as a team they are so connected to each other and they were known as St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron. It was a wonderful culture of play they have put on. Four of the players life been capitalized with so much of ease. Some where in the movie, they have not undone by any kind of worry. All that comes with a fine chemistry for the players and it does encourage any one to play the game. To be a super star in the game they have done lot. They have been undone by some of the celebrity styles one and how ever they have manage to build on it. Nine years of player’s life connected to each other and this documentary movie was so absolute honor to players of the game. It was a rare experience for the youth players and by seen the real life of players they loved most it can be so effective of them. This movie was directed by Kristopher Belman and he was too good on making documentaries such as this movie. LeBron James, Dru Joyce II, Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis and Sian Cotton join the cast in the movie More Than a Game (2009) with Willie McGee.

This is the remarkable story of a K through 12 school on Chicago's impoverished, high crime West Side, that has been sending 100% of graduating seniors to four year colleges and universities for 30 years. More than half of them are accepted by tier one schools and the class of 2008 was awarded more than $4.5 million in college scholarships. Providence St. Mel is a school that has completely escaped America's educational crisis.
Paul J. Adams III, an African-American man with activist roots in the 1960s civil rights movement, came from a family of teachers. After being black listed himself as a teacher in Alabama because of his civil rights activities, he moved to Chicago, received a master’s degree in psychology, and then landed a job as guidance counselor at Providence St. Mel, an all-black parochial school on Chicago’s notorious drug-ridden, gang-ruled West Side. "The Providence Effect" is an account of an individual man, the inner city Chicago school he founded, and the student lives that school has changed and saved.
If there's an argument against the Providence St. Mel prep school being the supreme model for remaking American education, you won't find it in"The Providence Effect," a portrait of a highly successful Chicago institution that feels more like a grant application than a social-issue doc. A PSA for educational tough love, "Providence" has earned better grades on the fest circuit than it's likely to get in a theatrical arena, where nonfiction frequently flunks out. Limited release begins Sept. 25.

Helmer Rollin Binzer's chief problem is tardiness: As "The Providence Effect" commences, Paul Adams III and his experiment in highly disciplined education have long been established. They've achieved a 100% success rate in college placement of seniors, and the bouquets have long been thrown; Ronald Reagan is the president we see visiting Providence St. Mel and praising the man who remade it. All of which is well and good but utterly devoid of conflict, aka drama. Witnessing testimonials about what's been accomplished don't quite match seeing something happen. And a prime opportunity for something compelling seems to have been missed. Providence St. Mel decides to open a charter K-5 school, to see if its policies can translate to a public building and younger students. Reflecting on the school's success, Adams catalogues all the problems they faced, including unions, work rules and "things that don't have anything to do with children." But what are they? Why don't we get to see all this happen? Watching the struggle unfold would have made a movie out of the garland of roses Binzer throws at Adams.

Opening with a graduation ceremony and establishing the school's credentials, Binzer has little to offer, it seems, besides a parade of talking heads (from inside St. Mel's, or among its graduates), all of whom praise Adams and the school he resurrected after it was abandoned by the Chicago archdiocese. Adams' credentials as a social activist are established via footage of the civil rights fight of the '60s, in which Adams participated -- the point being that while there's no shortage of nobility in "The Providence Effect," a little such confrontation would have cured its ills as cinema.
Production values are largely adequate, although Tom Dumont and Ted Matson's score shows exceptional promise and works well with others."The Providence Effect" is the story of an individual man, the inner city Chicago school he founded, and the student lives the school has changed and saved. The school, Providence - St. Mel, has a 30-year 100% college placement record; with an "old school" approach to learning --- "Do the work" --- and a dedicated corps of teachers and administrators, Providence – St. Mel can serve as the model for revamping all of American education.

A cowardly shut-in named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to join up with a seasoned zombie slayer named Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. As Tallahassee sets out on a mission to find the last Twinkie on Earth, the duo meets up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), two young girls who have resorted to some rather unorthodox methods to survive amidst the chaos. Reluctant partners in the battle against the undead, all four soon begin to wonder if it might be better to simply take their chances alone.

Two men have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss – but when you're afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-totin’, zombie-slayin’ badass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

Shanghai English Movie 2009I was in the minority of critics that actually gave Jackie Chan’s last buddy picture The Tuxedo a passing grade. Sure, the plot is a throwaway and as Chan’ s super-spy partner, Jennifer Love Hewitt is a complete miscast. But thanks to Chan’s great charisma, the movie transcends its doldrums. So with Shanghai Knights, the follow up to the entertaining Shanghai Noon, I feared this buddy story would suffer from similar inadequacies.
Last night I caught the new John Cusack film Shanghai, which isn’t out until September. It was actually pretty good. We were told it was something of a work in progress, with editing, score and some potentially big cuts still to be made, and they were fielding audience opinion at the end.
Shanghai is directed by Mikael HĂ¥fström, the Swede behind Derailed and another Cusack movie, 1408. It also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (yes, The Comedian from Watchmen), Chow Yun-Fat, Gong Li (Memoirs of a Geisha) and David Morse (the killer in Disturbia, bad cop in 16 Blocks).
Overall it was solid. The plot was pretty hard to follow, especially going into it without any prep whatsoever. It’s a WW2 drama taking place right before America joins the war, before Japan attacks China and Pearl Harbor. John Cusack and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are spies for America in Shanghai trying to figure out what Japan is doing there.

shanghai-movie-review
John Cusack’s cover is a journalist, and throughout the movie he kicks a lot of butt. I was a little taken aback at first because I didn’t think a journalist could be so bad ass, but when it’s revealed it’s just a front it makes a bit more sense.
Morgan gets involved with the mistress of Japan’s army commander and gets wind of attack plans on Pearl Harbor. He passes this on to Cusack who tries to gather enough evidence to prove it to his superiors. He gets involved with a local Mafia head (Chow Yun-Fat) and his wife (Gong Li) and together they try to piece together what Japan and Germany are up too.
It was surprisingly action packed - I thought it was going to be a long, drawn out drama swamped with romantic subplots. It was a really clean (no foul language, no boobies, only minor drug usage kids) action drama. I wasn’t quite convinced by Cusack as a lethal weapon - I know he did Grosse Pointe Blank but he usually plays writers in his films, or some heartbroken guy who can’t find love. The scenery is spectacular, Shanghai itself looks amazing, and there are some great fight scenes. Chow Yun-Fat and Gong Li both put in good work. I wasn’t bored during Shanghai, but part of the time was spent trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

Stan Helsing is a comedy / horror movie written and directed by Bo Zenga (the guy who brought you Scary Movie), stars: Leslie Nielsen, Diora Baird, Steve Howey, Kenan Thompson, Ben Cotton, Holly Eglington, Ildiko Ferenczi, Jeff Gulka, Desi Lydic, Tara Wilson. The film is set to be released on October 23, 2009 by Anchor Bay Entertainment. Its Halloween night, and Stoner video clerk Stan Helsing (Steve Howey of Reba) along with his insanely sexy ex-girlfriend (Diora Baird of The Wedding Crashers and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), his best buddy (Kenan Thompson of SNL) and an "exotic dancer"/"massage therapist" (Desi Lydic)- detour into a town cursed by parodies of 6 of the biggest monsters in movie history: Freddy / Nightmare on Elm Street, Jason/Friday the 13th, Inhead / Hellraiser, Leatherface / The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Chucky / Child's Play and Michael Myers / Halloween. But when Stan discovers that he's a direct descendant of the legendary monster hunter Van Helsing, the four have to survive a night with the monsters, homicidal hitchhikers, vampire strippers, killer karaoke, and the temptations of lots of hot chicks.

Anchor Bay recently released the poster for their upcoming horror/comedy “Stan Helsing,” as well as a short list of theaters brave enough to actually screen the flick for desperate movie-goers looking for cheap, low-brow entertainment. Thing is, I’m was initially kind of intrigued by the film’s premise, that is, until I caught sight of a particularly disturbing quote about halfway down the poster. Much to my horrifying dismay, the film is from the executive producer of “Scary Movie,” a franchise that is responsible for all of those insipid spoof movies we’re subjected to each and every year. Had I known this information in advance, I seriously doubt I would have wasted time pondering its potential. I feel dirty, and immediately require a hot shower.

If you’re one of the four people who are jonesing for this movie’s upcoming release, take a look at the list of theaters that have agreed to show it:

The Horse Boy 2009

It was another day at the office and even though I haven't really updated my xanga for quite some time [I have been blogging somewhere ....] I decided to see what going on in the realm of xanga world when I saw edlives post regarding a free advance screening event in NYC! Hmm.. sounds like a great opportunity since I'm a big independent film supporter and is looking for a new gig to review for my portfolio! So alas, to edlives I responded and the rest was history for this film has changed my life for good.

To be honest, I have no real knowledge on what autism is aside from what is typically portrayed in society and the media; autism as a mere mental disability. Given that I am a (non medical) researcher by trade, it makes sense for me to gather some more info regarding autism before the event but I held back as I want to take a raw interpretation on what the movie has to offer.
The movie started relating the love story of a couple. It was a picture perfect romance that is full of promises until they discovered the condition that their only son, Rowan, is suffering. Together as a family they embarked on a journey to the other side of the world in hopes of curing their son. I admire the determination of the parents to go all the way to Mongolia. It shows great faith (or can be also construed as desperation) - or maybe just to see him happy as the child connects with the horses. What amazes me is the strength of the love of the characters as parents but most especially as a couple. I applaud their ability to keep their humor intact during the whole trip. Not once did the couple show tears in the movie (although one scene showed Isaac almost crying and asking the camera to stop filming him) and their unwavering focus is really evident throughout the entire film.

This movie opened my eyes to the condition of autism. How this "disorder" affect us all. I know I have yet to learn more about this subject but from what I had gathered from the movie is that it is a condition that is far common than what society seem to accept. It gave me an impression that in our current society, somehow autism (or to a certain extent of it) is treated how left-handedness was decades ago. It was a good thing that there were medical professionals that were able to point out the qualities of autism that has help us shape our society such as the invention of essential And as mentioned by the medical professionals in the movie, the environment has a lot to do with the development of autism and as they move to the cleaner far east, it seems like their child's condition turned for the better.
It is just my hope that with the help of this movie, society can take this topic of autism seriously and actively. I hope that it would urge others to take action on how we can all cope and deal with this condition as a human race rather than turn our back for it is after all, affects each one of us.

Well, folks, you’re gonna love this one. It doesn’t come out until September 29th, and also represents the first ever horror title from Happy Madison’s newly-founded horror arm, Scary Madison. Today we’re talking The Shortcut, and it’ll be a study in attempting to overcome early losses.

Yeah, I know…that’s got me more than a little freaked out, too. I’m supposed to believe a horror movie from Mr. “You ain’t cool unless you pee your pants”?
The plot, of course, is horror movie standard, which makes it all the more unpleasant when you realize that this is rated PG-13. Essentially, we’ve got a shortcut through the woods, connecting the school to local residences. Meanwhile, the shortcut itself has become the topic of local legend, sufficiently so to require that it be locked and gated. It’s said to be home to a shovel-wielding lunatic that doesn’t much like kids…or trespassers. Both is right out.

Anyway, when a group of kids decides to investigate for themselves, what they’ll find will leave them never again the same.
What truly upsets me about The Shortcut is that nothing of any real consequence happens through the first half hour. Nothing worse than a dead dog and some vaguely ominous foreboding. Frankly, as a horror movie, this loses so much effect for just being plain old DULL.
Clearly, Happy Madison is out of its depth.
I will admit, however, that after the first forty minutes things do improve somewhat, and The Shortcut will manage to achieve some solid, if blatantly irrational, results in the last half-hour, but it’s almost a case of too little, too late. They lost so many opportunities in the first half hour there’s no way you can call this good. The best it can achieve is passable. The Screenhead Ten Scale hands this interesting slow-starter a six out of ten for opportunities lost and opportunities capitalized on.

 THE HILLS RUN RED 2009

Way back when I was in my teenage years I remember always searching out the most obscure and, more importantly at the time, the goriest movies I could find. It was always a competition with friends; the inner geek was unleashed so to speak. Over the following years I can honestly say that part of that geek still remains within me, although not quite to that degree. I still want to find and watch cool obscure and hard-to-find movies, but it is not the be all and end all. Hell, who am I kidding, of course it is!
Tyler’s plan is to talk his girlfriend Serina and best friend Lalo into helping him track down the illusive The Hills Run Red lost film and make a documentary about it along the way. His only real lead is Alexa, the daughter of the movie’s director, who starred in the movie as a child, but is now slumming it as a drugged up stripper. Well, you have to start somewhere don’t you?
This all eventually leads them off into the wilderness to find the movie’s original shooting locations. Locations that they will soon find out still run red, as it appears that there is a killer out there who would like nothing more than to finish off those pesky kids.
The Hills Run Red could quite easily have just been another predictable entry into the modern slasher flick. You know the kind – kids go off into the woods and get killed. If you look at it like that then yes, it could be. Fortunately, though, it takes these clichĂ©s and turns them on themselves. The cell phones do work, they do have a gun with them and so on. What sets it apart is how the film constantly twists and turns, so that as a viewer you will not see what is coming next. It is cleverly plotted throughout, a feat which isn’t always the case in movies like this.
Visually it has a nice gritty feel to it, as if it was dug from the archives itself, with the trailer for The Hills Run Red being especially cool. It’s probably not quite as violent as some might expect, but don’t let that fool you as there is plenty of claret on display here. Most of the gore is executed quite nicely, aside from one dodgy scene which you will know when you see it; it sticks out like a sore thumb.
On the negative side of things, there are a couple of gripes, minor as they are. Apparently detoxing from drugs only takes a couple of days, and then you are as fit as a fiddle. That just seemed a little too clean for my liking. Also, the DVD sleeve gives too much of the story away for me. It didn’t really spoil the movie, I just felt they could have been a little more sparing on some of the details.
Overall, though, The Hills Run Red is an excellent addition to the modern horror genre. It’s clever without trying to be too clever, it’s violent and uncomfortable viewing in places and the cast all put in solid performances. Once I got past the fact that Tad Gilgenbrinck, who plays Tyler, previously played Stiffler’s younger brother in one of the American Pie movies I was ok with it. He actually plays the part of Tyler exceptionally well, so that association with American Pie quickly passed.
Included on the DVD is a quite decent behind the scenes/making of feature, as well as a commentary from director Dave Parker, writer David J. Schow and Producer Robert Meyer Burnett.
This is a movie that I would definitely recommend you grab a copy of; it’s well worth your time. Go Run for the Hills!
The Hills Run Red will be released on DVD September 29th, 2009

  • Genre:Comedy
  • Director:Monty Miranda
  • Cast:Spencer Berger, Brian D. Phelan, Gabriel Tigerman, Kerry Knuppe, Jennifer Batter

Coming soon to theaters is Skills Like This, a first-time film attempt by director Monty Miranda. The story follows Max Solomon (Spencer Berger), a man who is at odds not only with himself but also the craft of writing. He swears off the hobby altogether after his first play, "The Onion Dance," bombs terribly in a local theater. And what a bomb it is -- the play's less-than-triumphant finale involves a Howard Hughes-like hero peeling back the layers of a banana whilst an astronaut, Swiss maiden, pygmy goat, and scattering of onions fill the background.
The play is so painfully awful that it gives Max's grandfather a heart attack. Distraught, Max sets off to commiserate over greasy fare with his bonehead buddies, Dave and Tommy (Gabriel Tigerman and Brian D. Phelan) only to discover that a meter maid has placed a boot on his car. By the time he meets his friends safely inside of a diner he's seemingly on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Instead of finding comfort in the company of friends, he's told to give up and face the cold, hard fact that he is not a gifted writer. Unable to accept this fate, he takes matters into his own hands and sets out in search of inspiration. He desperately wants to be good at something, and he suddenly becomes hell bent on breaking the rules. He throws away his wallet and walks across the street, resigned to carry out a random bank robbery. Hidden behind a pair of macho sunglasses, he storms into the bank, demands a load of cash and meets-cute with a young bank teller behind the counter named Lucy (Kerry Knuppe), who slyly slips him a lollipop along with a stash of cash.
Like a true criminal, Max later returns to the scene of the crime to bask in the glory of his badness, opting to commit the sin again by robbing a convenience store. This shoots him to superstar status in the eyes of Dave and Tommy, and they all dash off to celebrate Max's new-found career with a few beers. As fate would want us to believe, Max bumps into Lucy at the bar by complete coincidence. She instantly recognizes him as the robber but, shockingly, doesn't rat him out. An impromptu, awkward date ensues, but it's abruptly cut short when approaching law enforcement scares them away.
While the film shows tremendous indie-favorite potential, it unexpectedly takes a detour at this point from which it never seems to find its way back. Dave accompanies Tommy on a series of bizarre job interviews, ranging from a paralegal assistant to a carnival caretaker, both of which are as directionless as his dead-end supporting role. The same thing can be said for Dave who, like his friends, not only lacks direction but also lacks the character development needed to make us believe that he is the most morally-inclined of the three. Meanwhile, Lucy puts the brakes on her burgeoning romance with Max leaving him to contemplate the continuation of his criminal activities while simultaneously leaving us to wonder (for those few who might still care): will Max become a good witch or a bad witch? Which of his relationships will survive? And which way to the nearest theater exit?
Skills Like This opens on April 3rd in Los Angeles

David Dhawan. Govinda, Vashu Bhagnani. Sushmita Sen. This combination, in various permutations and combinations, has time and again succeeded at the box office with a truly mass appeal working for it. Add to that some young blood in the form of Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Sohail Khan and you know that Do Knot Disturb has been designed as a youthful entertainer. And then bring back Nadeem Shravan along with Sameer and expectations are bound to be quite high. Last film for which they composed music was Dosti - Friends Forever which was four years back. Hence, one plays on this Nadeem-Sharavan album with bated breath.

With the very first note of Do Knot Disturb coming into play, one knows there and then that Nadeem Shravan have left behind their sound of the 90s (which had in fact given a new dimension to the way Bollywood music was created then) and made what the doctors had ordered. Doctors in this case being David Dhawan, Govinda and Vashu Bhagnani. That’s because ‘Zulfaen Khol Khal Ke’ belongs more to Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Gharwali Baharwali and Biwi No. 1 mode than an Aashiqui or a Dil Hai Maanta Nahi.

Going with the genre of the movie, one doesn’t mind that either as Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Shriram put their ‘masti’ and ‘dhamaka’ hats on and enjoy their stint behind the mike in a number that should be a fun watch on screen. Does the number break any barriers? Does it present something that is absolutely unique? Does it have the potential to be playing 6 months from now? Answer to this is ‘no’ but the fact remains that it is decent fun as long as it lasts.
‘Don’t Ever Leave Me’ is a track that bears Nadeem-Shravan stamp but it really sounds outdated even after hearing it for a few times. A fast moving number that belongs to the late 90s and early 00s, this duet by Shaan and Shreya Ghosal is a love song that comes from the era of a ‘Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa’ and a ‘Dil Ka Rishta’. One would have expected something that moves as per the current times but ‘Don’t Ever Leave Me’ is far from it, especially the parts around ‘Oh Baby O’ which do appear passĂƒ©.
That special something is heard finally in ‘Bebo’ which is a Neeraj Shridhar and Anushka Manchandani combo. May be it’s the Neeraj Sridhar effect but after just one hear, you get an impression of listening to a Pritam composition. Now this one is a chartbuster for sure even though it comes a little too late in the album. An out and out entertaining track that has just the right attitude, beats and rhythm with the perfect vocals that could have been thought for a song belonging to this genre, ‘Bebo’ is a winner. Play it on a repeat mode for some good time on the dance floors.
In continuation of ‘Bebo’ comes ‘Beautiful Women’ which has Sowmya Raoh giving company to Neeraj Shridhar this time around. Set in the same mode and genre as ‘Bebo’, ‘Beautiful Women’ is again what one expected for an album that caters to current generation. Ok, so there isn’t anything extraordinary that Nadeem Shravan and Sameer have to offer but at least they spunk up the song enough to set the rhythm right. Just like the opening number ‘Zulfaen Khol Khal Ke’, this one stays on to be good as long as it lasts.
Finally, the title song ‘Do Knot Disturb’ tries to be all youthful, cool, hip and happening but sadly doesn’t turn out to be one. Sung by T.K.Karthik and Anushka Manchanda, this one too is really 90s and at places the change in tune is more annoying than entertaining. This is one of those tracks that may work only as a part of the film, though looking at it’s content it appears that this number may be more for promotional purpose rather than being interspersed in the narrative.
OVERALL
First things first - Do Knot Disturb has hardly the kind of music that one expects from Nadeem Shravan. It doesn’t carry the vintage style of the composer duo. As stated earlier, the music is created keeping in mind David-Govinda-Vashu brand of film making and hence there is a mix of Anu Malik, Pritam, Anand Raj Anand and Sajid-Wajid that one gets to hear. Play it on for ‘Bebo’!

Films like DIRTY DANCING and GREASE have enthralled millions of moviegoers across the globe. There have been few attempts to make out-and-out dance-based films in Bollywood, although there's a barrage of dance-based shows on television these days.FAST FORWARD, directed by debutante Zaigham Ali Syed, has some brilliantly choreographed songs, but there's a hitch: Absence of a gripping storyline.Actually, FAST FORWARD stands on a faulty story and the patchy screenplay only worsens the situation. The sole redeeming aspect of the enterprise is the dance numbers. That's it!FAST FORWARD tells the story of two friends, Rehan Khan and Akshay Kapoor, who are exceptional dancers. Akshay falls in love with Rehan's sister Bhavna Pani, only to discover she was suppressing her burning desire to dance. Akshay shows Bhavna a whole new world through dance, but unknowingly they revive Rehan's painful and dark past.

The story is full of contradictions. Firstly, the lead man is haunted by visions of his mother performing dances at sleazy joints and surprisingly, he aspires to be an accomplished dancer some day. But the moment his kid-sister wears her dancing shoes and starts gyrating, he actually throws a fit and gets those visions again that haunt him. Strange! Here's another gaffe. When Rehan's buddy Akshay professes love to Rehan's kid-sister Bhavna, all hell breaks lose. Rehan severs all ties with Akshay, opts out of the dance group, even bashes him and also detests his sight. Sure, Akshay has a roving eye, but even to the viewer, his intentions this time [for Bhavna] seem honest, so why this fuss? Suddenly, in the finale, there's a change of heart too!

The climax fight between Vinod Khanna and Mahesh Manjrekar is ridiculous. Khanna bashes up a dozen-odd villains like a 20-year-old would, which is hard to digest. Something like this may have worked when Khanna was in his prime, not today.

Zaigham seems technically adept, but he's letdown by a tacky script. The songs are okay, although the choreography is top notch. 'Taali Bajao' - towards the end credits - is the best of the lot.The youngsters pitch in decent performances. Rehan is natural. Akshay is equally at ease. Bhavna makes a sincere attempt. Siddhanth Karnick and Sabina Sheema are perfect. Each of them is exceptional in dancing. Vinod Khanna and Mahesh Manjrekar are wasted.

On the whole, FAST FORWARD is a weak product.

Let's come to the point straight away. When you've films like LAGAAN, SWADES and JODHAA AKBAR to your credit, every step you take, every move you make comes under a microscopic view. Naturally then, the expectations from Ashutosh Gowariker's WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? are monumental. There's another reason why WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? is special. Casting the same actor in 12 different roles is nothing short of a challenge - for the film-maker, for the writer and also for the actor in question. Now let's analyze. WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? works in parts. There are 12 raashees, which means 12 independent stories, plus there's a story of the dulha [Harman Baweja] and his family as well, also there's a story of a family-friend [Darshan Jariwala] running concurrently. That makes it 14 stories, 13 songs, approx. 3.20 hours running time...
Now to the vital question: Does WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? work?
Let me answer this question by raising a vital point. Did the running time [of 3 + hours] of SHOLAY, HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN, LAGAAN, JODHAA AKBAR and GHAJINI bother you? I am sure, it didn't. The problem with WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? is not its length/running time. The problem is its content.

If any film stands on a weak foundation [writing], even 1.30 hours seem never-ending. Conversely, if the writing is power-packed, even 3.30 hours of entertainment seems less. Let's not blame the length, for the biggest grosser of the world to date - TITANIC - also had a running time of 3.17 hours.

WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE?, unfortunately, lacks the power to keep you hooked and that's the prime reason why its running time/length is sure to be criticised. Oh yes, WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? has some wonderful moments and award-worthy performance[s] by Priyanka Chopra, but everything pales into insignificance when the written material is weak. To cut a long story short, WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? is a king-sized disappointment from one of the finest storytellers of India. WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? is the story of Yogesh Patel [Harman Baweja], a young man who, in his heart, has always wanted a love marriage. Till suddenly he is told that he must find his dream girl within ten days to save his family from utter ruin. Finding the dream girl is tough enough. Finding her in a hurry is even tougher. His solution is simple; he will meet one girl from each raashee - sun sign, as he feels that is the best way to make sure he finds a suitable wife, while also giving himself twelve chances to fall in love. Two meetings per day gives him six days to meet them, three days to make the final decision and he can get married on the tenth day, or so he thinks.

Based on the novel 'Kimball Ravenswood' by Madhu Rye, the concept of WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? is interesting, but the big screen adaptation isn't. To start with, you connect with barely a few stories, mainly the one who has a past and also the final one, of an underage girl. But several stories appear ridiculous and hence, ruin the impact generated by several wonderful moments. The jeweller's daughter, who believes in punar janam, falls flat. Ditto for the other jeweller's daughter, who pretends to be childish so as to test the intentions of the dulha. It's farcical. But the most ludicrous one is the businesswoman who has a pre-nuptial agreement in place, even before meeting the dulha.

Even Darshan Jariwala's track, towards the end specifically, tests the patience of the viewer. The detective drama is also ludicrous. Besides, the climax is far from convincing. The nanaji appears suddenly with a bagful of currency and the dues of the moneylenders and goons are settled soon after the saat pheras. How convenientEven the choice of the girl is debatable, since she has chosen him on a rebound [when she found that her lover was cheating on her]. In fact, the dulha had, rightfully, thought of the girl with the past and should've settled with her instead. That would've been a convincing finale.

Ashutosh Gowariker gets it wrong this time thanks to the poor screenplay. The writing is the biggest culprit here. Sohail Sen's music is easy on the ears, but why so many songs? A few songs can easily be deleted. Piyush Shah's cinematography is perfect.

WHAT'S YOUR RAASHEE? belongs to Priyanka Chopra. No two opinions on that. Words would fail to do justice to the remarkable portrayal of twelve different characters by this actor. This is her finest work to date. Harman is extremely likable and enacts his part with complete understanding. Darshan Jariwala is alright. Anjan Srivastava is as usual. Visshwa Badola is first-rate. Pratik Dixit does well.

The Boys Are Back 2009 English Movie Review,Watch The Boys Are Back Movie Free Online,Free Film Poster,Full Cast And Crew

THE BOYS ARE BACK 2009
Miramax is positioning The Boys are Back as a potential Oscar vehicle for Clive Owen. My suggestion would be to go into it forgetting about the hope for high praise and you will find a mildly unique entry in the sobby broken family melodrama genre and a solid performance by Owen that doesn't have the steam for a nomination, but it's well worthy of praise.
The film itself does its best to buck the genre, setting a male character as the lead whereas we are most often watching a single woman bounce around her hectic life trying to take care of the kids and deal with the loss of a loved one. I also think the Australian setting will be enough to convince some stateside moviegoers they are watching something different than they are used to, when it really is anything but.
Owen stars as Joe Warr, a well-known Australian sports columnist who originally hails from Blighty, but since his divorce and subsequent marriage to an Aussie equestrian, he has moved down under and started a new life fresh with a new son (Nicholas McAnulty) to boot. Sadly his wife suddenly passes, leaving Joe and his son on their own. They fall into a certain carefree and unsanitary lifestyle when Joe's son (George MacKay) from his first marriage pays a visit revealing the flaws in Joe's parenting system, which is simply a matter of saying "yes" to most anything.
Romance ensues and certain career entanglements cause their own share of problems, which is to be expected in a film of this sort, and while it is cliche and predictable the story remains sweet and entirely tolerable.
The Boys are Back is definitely a step up from Scott Hicks' last outing with No Reservations, but don't expect it to follow in the footsteps of Shine, which he directed Geoffrey Rush to an Oscar in 1996 and earned himself a Best Director nomination among five others. So to say the film comes from good stock is a definite and is sure to be looked at as the helmer's best narrative film since Shine, but I would never say it's a theatrical must see. A rental should take care of this one, but you won't be kicking yourself should you decide to buy a ticket.

Trailer Park Boys Countdown to Liquor Days 2009 Movie Review

Cast & Crew

At the local mutliplex last friday I caught a glimpse of the poster for Trailer Park Boys 2 in the lobby. Not the magnificence of the one-sheet to the left, but rather simply a kitty wearing coke-bottle glasses, the iconic pair worn by known cat lover, Bubbles, in the cult Canadian TV show The Trailer Park Boys. The mockumentary comedy managed to air for seven seasons up here in the Great White North and because a pop culture hit, spawning a couple of TV specials and a feature film produced by Ivan Reitman. The first film was a disaster because they pretty much threw continuity out the window in an attempt to cultivate a wider audience. Apparently lessons have been learned and Trailer Park Boys 2: Countdown to Liqourday has gone more the Serenity route. Wrap up the TV show with a coup de grace feature!
I am not clear how familiar US audiences are with this show, I believe in a strange round-about way it aired in the US on BBC America. Maybe bleeped maybe not. The trailer (tucked under the seat) is borderline NSFW though as a key seen involves some high-speed urination. You have been warned.
Trailer Park Boys 2 opens wide in Canada on on September 25, but if you happen to be in Halifax on September 17th, it is premiering the Atlantic Film Festival.

Synopsis

Ricky, Julian and Bubbles are about to get out of jail, and this time, Julian vows to go straight, even open a legit business. Soon the Boys will all be rich. At least that’s what they’ve told the parole board. But when they arrive back at the park, they find it's not the same old Sunnyvale - and it's not the same old Jim Lahey, Trailer Park Supervisor. Lahey's a new man, hasn't had a drink for two years. And he has plans - BIG PLANS - for Sunnyvale. But unfortunately for Lahey, Julian stands in his way. With his big plans for Sunnyvale going down the toilet, his relationship with Randy broken down, and having the Boys back in the park is all way too much pressure for him to bear. For Jim Lahey, the countdown to liquor day is on. Meanwhile, Julian's having problems of his own and the Boys are forced to resort to doing what they know best - breaking the law. Lahey's descent into the liquor coupled with the Boys descent into crime puts them all on a collision course to mayhem and destruction. - In Theaters September 25th, 2009.

Paranormal Activity 2009 Movie Review 2009,Watch Paranormal Activity Movie Free Online,Free Poster

Once the novelty of the first-person, subjective-camera horror flicks (Blair Witch, Cloverfield, Quarantine, Diary of the Dead, etc,) wore off for me, I started having logistical issues with the genre. After a while, you can't help but start paying attention to the inherent implausibility of the characters as persistent, skilled camerapeople who keep rolling when any reasonable person would have ditched the damn camcorder long ago. That may seem insanely picky, but it's what happens when the same flawed device is foisted on me time and again. I had some of the same objections toPARANORMAL ACTIVITY, which screened at Telluride in advance of a planned release by Paramount, and nearly two years after it first premiered at Screamfest in Los Angeles. But the movie is so skillful in every other way -- and so much fun -- that I essentially told myself to shut the hell up. Oren Peli's feature debut, the story of a woman haunted by a relentless and malevolent demon, is a terrific companion piece to this year's Drag Me to Hell, with Sam Raimi's old-fashioned horror chops replaced by the masterful execution of a conceptual gimmickThe idea here is that Micah (Micah Sloat) has purchased a fancy camera to better document what his girlfriend Katie (Katie Featherston, fantastic) claims are paranormal goings-on: weird noises in the night, waking up to things out of place, stuff like that. So Micah figures that if he leaves the camera running in their bedroom through the night -- hooked up to a laptop to avoid a tape running out -- he should be able to catch whatever it is that's happening, and maybe appease Katie in the process. The camera often rolls during the day too, as Micah and Katie, with the help (or more accurately non-help) of a hilariously terrified psychic, struggle with the effects of the increasingly intense haunting. But the film's set pieces are the largely silent nighttime sequences, as the stationary camera captures some clever, subtle, scary things. I compare Paranormal Activity to Drag Me to Hell not just because they tackle similar subject matter, but because both are so gleefully entertaining. These are good-natured horror flicks; movies to love. They will get under your skin, and they're dark enough for anyone, but they have no interest in intimidating you or pushing the envelope. Paranormal Activity will please horror fans and is an even better date movie; it's funny, too.

Coco Before Chanel Movie Review 2009,Watch Coco Before Chanel Movie Free Online,Download Free Poster

Title: Coco Before Chanel
Running Time: 110 Minutes
Status: Production/Awaiting Release
Country: France
Genre: Drama, Adaptation, Biopic
This year, anyone interested in the life of Coco Chanel will be spoilt for choice. There are several biopics around, including an American TV version with Shirley MacClaine and Malcolm McDowell and another which deals with her relationship with Stravinsky. What this one has is Audrey Tautou. Since she shot to fame in Amelie, she has proved her versatility in films like Dirty Pretty Things and Priceless. But she has now found a role which fits her like a couture glove. Besides looking remarkably like Chanel, she conveys her steely determination.
Gabrielle (Coco) and her sister Adrienne (played by Marie Gillain) are born into a very poor family and spend their adolescent years in an orphanage following the death of their mother. Here, Coco trains as a seamstress. Later, the two sisters also make a living by singing in nightclubs. Coco dreams of going to Paris, and is fortunate to meet the wealthy playboy Etienne Balsan (Benoit Poelvoorde), who arranges an audition for her. She fails the audition and Balsan leaves, but Coco decides to seek him out at his Normandy chateau. Here, she charms her way in and persuades Balsan to allow her to stay. He makes it plain that she is there for his entertainment, and she tolerates the drunken sex because she needs the entrée to society and because she has nowhere else to go.
She soon wearies of the endless parties and the shallow conversation, but her non-conformity and insistence on speaking her mind are seen as refreshing by some, together with her quirky mode of dressing. Surrounded by frou-frou, Coco chooses what is to become her lifelong signature, simple elegance. Initially a simple lack of money, plus a desire for freedom from corsets, inspires her to develop her own pared down style, cutting and reshaping men’s clothes to suit herself and gradually influencing the women around her. Coco sees clearly that plain, unrevealing clothes can be more alluring and that loose clothing can give women the freedom to be active. It helps, of course, to be young, thin and gamine.
It is difficult for us, in an age where anything goes, to appreciate how daring this must have seemed. When we first see Coco dancing in a little black dress it looks perfectly normal, and walking outdoors in silk pyjamas is no big deal either. But Chanel was a rebel in more than just fashion. She is seen reading revolutionary tracts. When questioned by her actress friend (the wonderful Emmanuelle Devos) about her sexual preferences, she hints at her bisexuality, “Skin is skin”. And she is determined never to marry, though she wavers when she falls in love with Balsan’s friend, the Englishman Arthur “Boy” Capel (Alessandro Nivola looking rather like a young Ralph Fiennes).
It is all very beautiful to look at, and packed with references to Chanel’s later creations. The camera pans lovingly over details of clothing, showing us through Coco’s eyes the influences which she gained from observing at events like the races or a trip to the seaside. Credit is due to the costume designer, Catherine Leterrier, who was given the brief of creating this “early Chanel” collection and does a fine job.
Poelvoorde is very good as Balsan, who becomes genuinely fond of Coco, realising his true feelings when she begins her affair with Boy. But it is really Tautou’s film, and she makes us admire her though we may not like her.
I did find the film rather slow-paced. Coco spends much of her time being bored and frustrated, and the problem with portraying boredom is it can become boring to watch. There is some verve in the early singing scenes, but overall I was left with the impression that breaking all those conventions was a long, hard slog.
The film takes us to the point where Chanel is preparing her first couture collection and putting on a glamorous Paris show, looking back over her life as she sends the models out onto the catwalk. Rumour has it that this film is intended to be the first part of a trilogy. It will be interesting to see how the writer deals with the wartime years, when Chanel turned collaborator. Meanwhile, we shall be seeing much more of Audrey Tautou, as she is about to take over from Nicole Kidman as the face of Chanel.
